We do excellent xHTML and PHP coding
It is amazing how many website designers can't actually build the site that they have designed. Admittedly designing and building a site are completely different skills and usually the same person will not be able to do both well. However it is reasonable to assume that the company that you hire will be able to do both. This is something that we understand so we can both design your site and do the necessary coding.
These days almost all websites use xHTML (in combination with Cascading Style Sheets, better known as CSS) as the major part of their coding. The reason for this is that it helps to ensure that the site will work in any browser. In the early days of web design all sites were coded with HTML, however over the years as new technology has become available it became clear that HTML would need to be extended. The result is xHTML which is now pretty much the standard. It should be a given that if you are having a site built for you that it will be done using xHTML.
One of the most useful coding languages when it comes to building websites is PHP. The reason that this is so important is that it allows you to change the content on your site without having to recode the whole thing. This was a major issue in the early days of websites since changing what was on your site was a major hassle. Nowadays with PHP you can design a site in which the content is constantly changing, you can even have it set up so that different visitors see different content. This creates all kinds of opportunities to customize your site.
While tools like xHTML and PHP are great ways to make your site more functional it is important that you understand how to use them. More particularly it is important that the person designing your site know how to use them. Just because you can add a feature to your site doesn't mean that you should. In general you are better off keeping your site simple and making sure that any special features that you add will actually enhance your visitor's experience. This is something that a lot of web designers don't seem to understand but we certainly do.
Of course when you do decide to use things like xHTML and PHP it is critical that whoever is building your site know how to work with them. Most people building sites know how to use them but generally don't do a very good job of it. The main reason is that they don't do a very good job of testing the site to make sure that it works properly. This is a major oversight, when you are coding a site you should expect that there will be bugs that need to be sorted out. You have to make sure that you find them before you hand the site over to the customer.
